Post 13: Lok Lok

September 30, 2009; Damansara; Post 13

Do you know if you search “Steamboat” in Yahoo!! This is what you get...Really 1 big 1 small ah....!!! Anyway, if you would mention steamboat in Malaysia, I am pretty confidence 99% of Malaysian will not think anything near there.

This is what I am talking about, the real meaning of “Steamboat” in Malaysia. Not to say the word is wrong but the real meaning of using “Steamboat” in Malaysia. This could be the more standard way of enjoying a good Steamboat. There is a lot of steamboat buffet restaurant in the street now. With different name, different location, different shop but all serve the same thing...or at least similar....But still there is another way of enjoying steamboat also...

This one!!!

Honestly, I have stop eating it since very young due to a serious case happen that time. I believe it was like 15-20 years back when our parent will not allow us to eat it. But this couple of years, this business is coming back...very much alive...with different brand name as well!!! As far as I can notice, there is at least 3 brands in Klang Valley now, not to mention some others freelance doing lok lok on their own.

Lok Lok is the comment name use for this kind of Steamboat. They park on the road side...using very noisy generator to generate power for the lights...all food are serve openly along with big ice cube next to it...not really a good choice for enjoying a good meal...but it is definitely mine especially for supper!!

They serve a lot of food in this small store. Mostly are meat balls...fish ball, pig ball, sotong ball, you name it!! And of course there is also a lot of “spare parts” where others might find it disgusting to eat. But still, this is my all time favourite.

One of the signature foods everyone should try when eating lok lok is the Kerang. I don’t know how to say it in English, but this babe is a must...just need to boil it into the hot water for 10 seconds...put in the chilli source and that is the best way of eating it!!! Simple and nice!!!

Try it if you dare but be aware of your stomach condition whether can accept this kind of food because this kind of food is only for strong stomach people only!! :D

Post 11: Disneyland - Hong Kong

September 22, 2009: Damansara: Post 11:

Disneyland: Never though I will still enjoy my trip to Hong Kong Disneyland at my age. During April, I visited Hong Kong Disneyland. While we were doing planning for the trip to Hong Kong, I was reluctant to waste any money & time to Disneyland because I feel those places are for kids and for kids only. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, all this does not interest me anymore. Luckily Hou Cher and Wen Feng insist and we put Disneyland as 1 of the place we must go.

We went to Disneyland by train and arrive around 9am plus. Wen Feng book entrance ticket earlier and when we received the ticket, it becomes our mission of the day to take photo with the same carton character with our ticket. Mine is Goffy.

It was a fun day to see so many happy faces around. Kids chasing to see all carton they saw in TV. They also have performance and you can see a lot carton walking around going to “work” on their station. Everyone looks happier in Disneyland. There is also a half hour parade on the street. All the carton will appear on the wagon and wave to everyone. We do our queue for almost all the carton character we can see in Disneyland.

Even in Disneyland, Hou Cher will not let go any chances for any football jersey!!! haha

3D cinema is the best. The effect is really good. For the first time, I can experience a better 3D effect movie with Disneyland cinema. Most 3D movie I saw was not as “real” as this. I think some call it as 4D because there is water sprint and wind blow. You can feel more.
And so, I keep chasing all the famous Star in Disneyland and try to complete all the main carton character so i won't regret coming here without taking photo with them.

It was a fun trip over, unexpectedly... sigh, I miss photo with Snow White. She was my dream girl when i was very young!!!

Post 10: Friends

September 20, 2009: Damansara: Post 10

Friends… I grew up together, playing badminton, basketball, involve in Chinese Society.

Friends… We organize a lot of party, event for gathering. Some came out so regularly that we will meet up at William Café for 5-6 days a week. We also celebrate birthday, farewell for oversea studies, gone outstation with 2-3 cars, so much that I will need to sit down, long enough to prepare the list.

Friends… When time for SPM, we gather in Mandy house or Andy’s house for group studies and because of that motivation from them, I score 3 As in my SPM. Of course nothing to brag about for those As’ scorer but I appreciate a lot those days for their help and guide when I needed most.
Friends… I cannot remember who invented this Raminian name, but I am an official Raminian member. We did 10th years anniversary couple years back to celebrate our friendship. That was good.
Friends…. We went to Langkawi for Delima Air show and we were there for about 10 days working and holidaying together. It was really fun. Occasionally we meet up for drink, chat or steamboat as well.

Friends…We learn ballroom and Salsa dancing together, Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Jive, Rumba, Bachata, Salsa…etc. Sometime we hangout for drink as well. We have the chance to go dancing event together and watch how professional dancer really dance.

Glad to have everyone as my friend!!! .....Thank you!!!

Post 9: Festive Season - 中秋节

September 19, 2009: Petaling Jaya Old Town: Post 9:

2009 Lantern Festival coming soon. Still remember time when i was younger, i use to lighted up candle in front of my house gate, arrange and hang lantern around tree branches and my parent will keep an eye on me to make sure i will not burn the house down!! :P Overall, the atmosphere is much more enjoyable and pure. Burning candles around our gate and show off our lantern around the street like a parade!!! those day were great...Life was much simplier...

There is also a story telling how Lantern Festival come about but I cannot remember details of the story. Is been awhile anyone telling such story anymore. All I remember is there is a beatiful girl heading to the moon and stay there forever, too bad...

While window shop, you can notice more and more store selling mooncake now. There is various of favor, packing, design, taste, size...etc. Unlimited choices for selection. Price is not cheap too for some of the reputable brand. Still I dont really like mooncake myself. I like playing with lantern but mooncake is really not my favourite. Most of it is really sweet...as if they put tones of sugar to produce 1 moonocake.

Lately i received an email from 1 of my old friend. Above is the promotional poster. They are selling some mooncake. One think i like about the mooncake is: it is not too sweet!! They brought it for us to try and I do like what i eat. Green tea is definately my choice!! One of thier selling point is there is not preservative into this mooncake, which mean, you need to finish it within days as they are baking it fresh for customers. These mooncake will be pack in 2 pcs/pack and if ordering 8 pcs aka 4 packs, there will be another bigger red bags to carrying it. No box, only carrying bag, and preferable with no mixture of flavor in pack. So if anyone interested, please let me know or you may contact Ms Chong @ 012-231 7081.

Post 8: 纯根

September 17, 2009: Damansara: Post 8

Received a very interesting instant pack drinking powder from our client. He have it from his client but dare not to try. First, it is from China, who know what they actually put inside that pack. 2nd, the packing information looks like Tangkat Ali, and so, we worry after drinking, it will affect our "manlyhood performance". Name: 纯根.

The packing did briefly explain what it is for. After reading it, me and my friend become curious, and decided to take 1 packet for trial, see how "powerful" this drink can be!!! By reading it's description, it does sound like Tangkat Ali, of course, both of us don't really need this kind of drink to perform, we are very good... but since there is no one daring to try, why not us!! :D

The powder come in yellow and smell like Soya drink. Once it mix with hot water, the soya bean smell even stronger. It does smell good. I prepared 2 cup of it and both of us try. Conclusion: It taste like Soya Bean only. Nothing particular weird about the taste...hiah...too high expectation...and conclusion is only Soya drink... and nothing else...

There is nothing strange at all about me after the drink and i assume it should be the same for my friend.

For you, Gus Tan!!

Post 7: Sunday Breakfast

September 16, 2009: Damansara: Post 7

Bak Kut Teh (肉骨茶) is always one of my favourite dish since long time. Since I have my car license, i have started to travel down to the place of origin for Bak Kut Teh (肉骨茶), KLANG. Well, of course not every day or every week lah, but regular.

There is one particular shop that I normally goes, Kedai Minuman dan Makanan Teluk Pulai. This shop serve a very reasonable Bak Kut Teh (肉骨茶). Price is ok and the taste is what i like most but on the the day we go, it is crazyly alot of people eating. The shop is full!! and still there is alot of others willing to stand around and search for a seat. For your information, this shop have 2 lots and both lot is full. While waiting on the road side hoping there is a table for us, we are thinking should we continue to wait here or should we try else where.

There is actually another shop who are very famous as well in Klang for its Bak Kut Teh (肉骨茶). Famous for finish early, very early!!! Its located near to a bridge, beside a KTM station. As what i mention earlier, it famous for finish early, so by the time we arrive there, there is no need to expect for another pot of it.
Determination is what I like to call it. We insist to have it on that day and we start to think where can we eat. So we headed over to the 3rd restaurant of the day and try our luck. Restaurant name is really special, is call Fei Kay Bak Kut Teh. Aeroplane Bak Kut Teh?? haha... good selection!!!

Luckily they are still open. Finally we can start our "engine", ready to sapu as much as we want, eat as much as we can. Come on, travelling 3 shop with empty stomach is really suffering one leh. Hungry men is always an angry men!!! :P...

And so, we get our mission done on Sunday by having Bak Kut Teh. Just for your information, beside serving traditional Bak Kut Teh soup, they also serve Dry Bak Kut Teh as well. Taste good. Should try when possible. Something different from other shop we visited.

Another "veryful" morning breakfast and I still enjoy very much eating Bak Kut Teh in the morning, very satisfying!!! Although it is not one of the healthy food to eat for breakfast but i like it lot. No regret!!! :D

Post 6: Friends Gathering.

September 15; Damansara; Post 6:

Last week, me and my friend is getting together for a trip to Genting Highland. Actually we did not stay at the highland but we stay at Thiam Swee apartment which is very near to Genting Highland. Swee allow us to stay over night at his apartment at Genting view and we start planning for the food and try to gather as much peopls as possible.

We have about 12 people up there and Yit Soo bring along her Mahjong and Rammi for entertainment. Everyone is trying to have a good time and we did. We did steamboat and BBQ together. There is really alot of food for everyone.

As night is getting closer, everyone start to work on something. Start up fire, wash/cut the food, arrange table + chairs. Is really about teamwork. Desmond, Mathew and Peggy preparing steamboat dishes, Yaw & Swee getting the fire start. Moon is preparing the sandwich. It was a great fun.

Is been awhile since i last hang out with them. Of course we gradually keep in touch with MSN or forward mails but, gathering like this, it have been ages. As I grow older, I start to appreciate more for gathering like this. The feeling is like, "I dont know when will we meet again next time?". Seeing everyone laughing, playing mahjong, playing Rammi and non stop eating, it was a great moment to remember.

Wish everyone of them always happy and healthy. Sincerely. Though we might not meeting up everytime, but now, in this blog, it have record of what we had in September 2009. Cheers Brother and Sister!!
